Jump Rope for Heart
Once again St. John will be participated in The
American Heart Association's fundraiser, Jump
Rope For Heart. This wonderful program teaches children the benefits
of exercise along with encouraging participation in their community.
In past years our school has been the top moneyraiser in the county.
School
Library...
The
library is located in the Fine Arts Building on the hill toward the
south end of campus. Each fall and spring the library hosts a book
sale to raise funds for new books and educational materials. We are
proud of our over 22,000 resources that are available for check out.
We
also carry many of the titles for the High
School Reading List. Why buy a book when you can check it out
of the library? Use our computerized card catalog to search for the
title or author you seek, or ask our knowledgeable librarian, Mrs.
Kamholtz for assistance.
Activities
and Clubs...
St. John Lutheran School provides many opportunities
for students to get involved! Perhaps you would like to be involved
in one of our Service organizations, Fellowship of Christian Athletes,
National Honor Society, Art Club, JETS, or Student Council. Opportunities
exist to begin your own club, too.
Anchor Club...
For many years, St. John Lutheran High School in partnership with
Pilot International has sponsored an Anchor Club. Anchor is a service
organization for young women who have a desire to provide volunteer
services to those in need. We actively support many organizations
and causes within our local community. In recent years, we have
supported North Marion Ministries, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society,
Senior Services, Special Olympics, Salvation Army, Alzheimers Society,
and others. More information about Anchor Clubs can be found at
www.pilotinternational.org.
St. John students are eligible for Anchor membership once they
enter their sophomore year. There is an Anchor initiation and induction
ceremony each fall. We have a lunch meeting once a month, regular
service projects, such as serving at the Special Olympics, and occasional
socials throughout the year. Currently, St. John has almost forty
members.
Saints On Stage Drama Program...
Thanks to our fearless leader, Kim Sandstrom, St. John's drama
program (a.k.a. Saints On Stage) put on an outstanding spring production
of the play, Cheaper by the Dozen last spring. More drama
(and comedy!) to come next school year!
Fellowship of Christian
Athletes...
FCA
is a national organization promoting Jesus Christ through the world
of sports. Club sponsor: Dr. Humphries jihumphries@stjohnocala.org
National Honor Society and
National Junior Honor Society...
For more than 60 years, these two national organizations,
National
Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society, have stressed
scholarship, leadership, service, and character. St. John is proud
of the high percentage of our students who qualify for these prestigious
societies.
Sponsors:
NHS: Larry Dexheimer ladexheimer@stjohnocala.org
NJHS: Jennifer Fontaine jefontaine@stjohnocala.org
Red Ribbon Week...
Each October, St. John students and parents participate in Red
Ribbon Week, the nation-wide anti-drug campaign begun in memory
of Enrique "KiKi" Canarera, a member of the U.S. Drug Enforcement
Administration who was killed while investigating a major Mexican
drug cartel. Events typically include wearing red shirts, completing
Red Ribbon activity books, a special assembly presentation by the
school D.A.R.E. officer, contests, and prizes. This year's theme is
"Run your own life! Stay drug free!"
